D-Shimmy

Choreographer, Performer, Dance Lecturer (incl. SEN Schools)

Trained at City & Islington College and gained BA Joint Honors in Performing Arts in DeMontfort University, Bedford.  He is currently studying an MA in Diasporic Dance Styles at Goldsmith University & IRIE. 

His artistic career began setting up Rawskills,

a pilot project funded by NewDirections, which aims to get more young men into dance. The main significance of his achievements at Rawskills is unique and rare in UK tackling and challenging the racial conventions that resonate in the field of performing arts.  He was an associate choreographer and board member in Connectingvibes.

His recent contributions include numbers of dance workshops in German M.O.D, London, and China. He also lectures various dance styles, directs performance from children to professional level, abled to disabled in schools, and communities. He was also a part of IRIE Theatre and choreographed for Regeneration Conference 2014,2016 and dance on film speaker for Regeneration 2019 at The Lowry.

D-Shimmy is an innovative and much sought-after dance artist and choreographer, challenging the boundaries of artistic expression to produce ground-breaking and unique performance pieces. His successions of creative projects runs nearly 10 years and has made major contribution to his own development in his company, SEZDRENAH (2007-, later being directed by INNER-MINDS-EYES), emerging company which achieved the great appearance on Resolution 2009, growing rapidly to this day.  

 

He was a short run ‘Offies’ finalist (Off West End Awards, final 4 out of 300 companies). This was for an adaptation of Franz Kafka’s ‘Red Peter’ produced by Grid Theatre.

D-Shimmy is currently a co-choreographer for IRIE’S 40th Anniversary production “KEHA SEEBII”.
